2023 Reading Challenge
So at the beginning of this year, I set a goal on my Goodreads account to read a total of 12 books. Last year my goal was 10, which was a bit of a challenge to be honest; so this year I bumped my goal up an additional two books to push myself. Even though I'm an avid reader, sometimes whenever I have a long day at work I tend to not have the mental energy to pick up my book and read. Those are the days that can set me back on my goal exponentially. I will say though, this year, I am defiantly on track! So far I have read one book each month, and am currently on my eighth book and have read about 34% of it.
The worst time for me usually is around the months of November and December due to my job. The stress that it brings me on a daily basis during those months can bring me home mentally exhausted, which makes it harder to read leisurely. I am crossing my fingers this will be my last quarter with my company, and hoping to find bigger and better opportunities elsewhere so that I can get back to enjoying, not only my books, but also the holidays as well.
At the moment I am reading a book titled "Sing" by Vivi Greene. This is one of my bargain books I spoke about in my last post. It is a stand-alone novel in the YA genre, with hints of romance and music intertwined. It is portraying a pop-star singer by the name of Lily Ross who has just went through a very public and emotional break up with her also famous boyfriend of one year Jeb Munroe. To help herself move on from being shamelessly dumped, Lily's best friend/assistant Tess has convinced her (and their good friend Sammy) to take the summer off at her family's cottage on Penobscot Bay. While on this vacation, Lily is also expected to create a whole new album to preform at her next fall tour which is only a few months away. The pressure is on, not just for Lily who is currently having brain-fog in creating new music, but for her friends who depend on her for their income. So far I have seen her friends being super supportive of her in this time, but I feel eventually this will change due to timeline of the album being due, and Lily having not written a single song let alone a single note. Love, of course, is right around the corner with the meeting of a handsome stranger on the island name Noel. At the moment he really isn't a fan of her (both literally and figuratively), due to Lily crashing Tess's car into his work truck. But like all YA novels, love is due to blossom, what with Lily's reputation of falling in love too often, and the only attractive male on the entire island is a close friend to her best friend Tess.
So wish me luck on finishing my goal this year, and stay tuned to the wonderful books I am able to share with you through my reading journey!
